Weipa is a remote mining town on the Gulf of Carpentaria. Reaching it from Underwood requires a flight to Cairns followed by a regional flight or a long, challenging 4WD journey up the Cape York Peninsula. The Peninsula Developmental Road is mostly unsealed and requires a high-clearance vehicle. This is an expedition-style journey suitable for experienced travelers.
Total Distance: Driving distance 2,600 km; straight-line air distance 1,950 km.
