Weipa is a remote mining town on the Gulf of Carpentaria. From Eight Mile Plains, the most practical way to reach Weipa is by flying from Brisbane to Cairns, then taking a connecting regional flight to Weipa Airport. Driving is an arduous 2,500-kilometer journey requiring a 4WD, as the Peninsula Developmental Road (PDR) is largely unsealed and prone to seasonal closures. This trip is for experienced adventurers only. Ensure your vehicle is equipped for rugged terrain.
Total Distance: Driving distance 2,550 km; straight-line air distance 1,950 km.
